The Alma Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Conductor Dr. Murray Gross, has been celebrating its 50th anniversary season, and our final concert will be presented April 10 at 8 p.m. and April 11 at 4 p.m. The orchestra will combine their wonderful Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Alma College choirs.
As community and council members of our magnificent orchestra, we are very proud of our beautiful Heritage Center and performances that take place at Alma College. To enjoy the performing arts is a precious experience that we all should be very thankful for. This season as in seasons past, every concert has been a masterpiece of dedication, precision, and articulate composition.
If you have not been to our 50th anniversary concerts yet, or even if you have, we sincerely hope you will join us for our concluding season finale. Tickets are available at the Heritage Center, $10 for adults, $5 for seniors 62 and up, and free for Alma College staff, students and youth 18 and under.

As a parent of a senior athlete, this has been a dream year for a sports dad and I would like to thank all the coaches and players, along with all the fans that followed both the football and basketball teams. I would especially like to thank and tell my son, Darin, how proud I am of him and the hard work he has put into his sports career at Ithaca High School. His hard work has paid many dividends as he was a force in both football and basketball.
If I could give any advice to other dads and young athletes, it would be this: The season does not start the first day of practice, it starts tomorrow in the weight room and the time out on the court all by yourself. Success starts with you and transfers to the team, so start now!
Darin has put hundreds of hours in the weight room and training for his success, along with many other players on both teams. I would like to thank Brett Smith for allowing my son and several other players to workout on his training machines.
The senior athletes of 2010 have raised the bar for success at Ithaca and have decided that “average” is not good enough, both teams shot for state championships and came up a little short, but both ended their runs “as the best ever” in both sports at Ithaca High School, and I, along with all the other moms and dads, thank all of you athletes for the memories.

Clean your taillights, please! To save lives!
I live on M-46 quite close to an intersection.
I have been here 46 years and have witnessed “near accidents’ at our corner too often.
So many times I have seen vehicles with dirty taillights waiting for oncoming traffic to pass in order to make a left turn.
It seems that traffic comes in “bunches” which I’m sure is due to stoplights in opposite towns.
Too many times, I’ve heard squealing of brakes causing a chain reaction from the first stopped vehicle.
I just wonder when there is going to be a terrible collision that pushes vehicles into the oncoming traffic.
I realize how quickly cars get dirty when they have to travel gravel roads. However, most people probably drive by several gas stations at which those rear lights could be cleaned. At the very least, they can always be cleaned with just a cloth or paper towel.
Please, Mr. and Mrs. Public, clean those lights and remind the young drivers to keep theirs clean, also.
I only took the time to write this in order to hopefully prevent some traffic deaths or serious injuries.
Thank you for helping,
Kay Mosher

We would like to thank everyone for helping find our son Dominic Harris, and his friend Dakota Edwards on March 19, 2010. It’s wonderful to know that we live a community that when tragedy strikes there are so many great people that are willing to pull together for a common goal. Once again we would like to give a special thanks to Perrinton Fire Rescue, Gratiot County Police, State Police, and all the volunteers, in the safe return home of our boys.
Thank you,
Sheena Carman and
Brad Goodyear
