Dear Editor:
As did Pastor Ron Helzerman of Lighthouse Baptist Church, Riverdale in the Herald of May 13, I am also writing in response to the letter of May 5 regarding homosexuality.
Pastor Helzerman is surely right in stating that the Biblial term for homosexuality is sodomy, that sodomy goes against nature, against the Bible, and that God calls it an abomination [a term reserved for the worst kinds of sins].
Numbers of Scripture denounce the sin of sodomy, as seen in Lev. 18:22-24; Rom. 1:24-27; I Tim. 1:9-10; and Rev. 21:27.
I Corinthians 6:9-11 gives solemn warning to those engaged in the sin of sodomy, of drunkenness, and in other sinful behaviors. It states that those of such behaviors shall not go to Heaven. It then goes on to state, “and such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” Wow! Before they heard of Jesus and received Him as their Savior, they espoused one of the above sinful behaviors. The Spirit of God took hold of and empowered them to change, to love and obey Him who saved them!
Clergy and all Biblical Christians need to speak out in regard to the evils of our day, in which the Bible is removed from our schools and replaced with atheistic evolution, and in which abortion is legalized. How can such do other than bring a curse upon our children, homes, and nation?
Thus, one of the greatest Biblical Christians, Martin Luther, stated: “Though we be engaged in the battle, if we do not fight where the battle is the hottest, we are traitors to the cause.” Similarly, Theodore Roosevelt stated: “When you educate a man in mind but not in morals, you educate a menace to society.”
In behalf of God’s blessings provided by Biblical morality and Christianity,
Sam Wiederhold
