To the Editor:

While many are screaming loudly, some throwing bricks, and others hurling profanities, I wish to thank our President and all those who worked to guarantee us all greater access to health care.

I have experienced the fear of not being insured and the financial and emotional difficulties that come with chronic illness. But I am not glad just for myself. Our government took a step toward ensuring greater wellness for all of us.

Historically, this country has tried to balance a capitalistic economy and a concern for those who might fall through our social safety net. Reforms such as Social Security, Medicare, and the Veterans Administration helped to tighten that net. Health care for all is not part of a socialist agenda, it is part of a HUMAN agenda--our government working for us!
