Alma schools pioneer new nutrition program[ In News ]In an attempt to establish higher nutritional standards in school districts throughout the state, the Alma school district has received a grant to spearhead the Schools Implementing Nutrition
Standards initiative. The grant was awarded by the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH), in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), to only four school districts across the state. In accordance with the grant, Alma schools will work hand-in-hand with the state to provide nutritional food options during any and all school activities, while showing that the school can take on the changes in a cost-controlled manner.
Department of Corrections to consolidate St. Louis prisons[ In News ]With the Pine River, Mid-Michigan and St. Louis correctional facilities all within very close proximity of one another, the Michigan Department of Corrections has determined to consolidate two
of the installations. The Pine River and Mid-Michigan operations will combine and operate under the Pine River name, according to Pine River Warden Tom Birkett.
